Blistery Weather on the Farms

Two cows went down. One did not make it. We are trying to nurse the other back. Besides the regular milking, bottling, feeding, and making butter, the daily routine now includes feeding the animals behind wind breaks, breaking ice in watering troughs, bringing many into the shelters, especially the sheep whose lambs are more susceptible to predators at nighttime.

We are thankful that we had such a successful haylage harvest last Summer as we supply nutrient dense feed to the cows and sheep. We hope that we were able to put up enough to get us through till Spring.

We moved our distribution center back to Lancaster. This took a little more time and effort as the winter weather slowed down our movement. But, it is moved.

We are training our new fulfillment team and re-inventorying our stock.

We just butchered beef and pigs. We are happy to say, that our butcher was able to use either apple cider vinegar or water to clean the carcasses. So, no Lactic Acid, Citric Acid, or Chlorine on any of our fresh beef and pork cuts slaughtered this year. The exception is our processed items like the beef sticks, beef broth, beef sausages, beef bacon, bologna which are cleaned with Lactic Acid. Yay!!!

Our pastured pigs, which rotationally graze right along with our beef and lamb, rooting bugs, grubs, and roots were supplemented only a very small amount of SOY-FREE, chemical-free grain and minerals.

You will see that many of our beef, pork, and lamb cuts are now back in stock including our beef broth, beef tallow, and knuckle bones which some folks have be patiently waiting for.

Now, that fulfillment is closer to home, we shouldn’t run low or out of cheeses and meats as quickly as we have the last couple years. Our shipping process is new and we ask for your patience as we get adept with our new system. And, once it’s under way, the process will be much more efficient and smooth for all of us.

You may have noticed that we are increasing some of our prices. We haven’t raised our prices for 3 years and cutting out soy, the cost of farming going up, and the chemical-free cleaning process has increased our expenses. UPS shipping prices are going up 5.9% and we will need to factor this in in the next couple months as well. We assure you that your higher prices are purchasing you even better quality pasture raised products than we have provided in the past.

Thanks again for your support as we look forward to our best year yet, growing and producing healthy meats and cheeses for you and your family.

What's So Great About Grass?

Mama cows with their babies often live in grass environments but many of them are fed supplemental grain. And, most beef landing on dinner plates comes from cattle kept in huge confinement systems and fed only grain while they live in dust and dirt. The catch words that define beef from Simply Grassfed are “grass finished”.

Preparing for Winter

John and crew have been scrambling to get the barn renovations completed, shoring up the posts and beams, pouring new footers and concrete slabs, and replacing the 100-year-old siding and gates. Fencing and watering system repairs are getting attention.

Alvin's A2 Jersey Milk Cows

John and Alvin Fisher grew up milking and caring for the cows on their father’s farm in the 1980’s. Currently, Alvin operates the farm with forty-eight A2 Jersey cows that are rotationally grazed on chemical-free pastures and milked twice daily.
